Pay Range: $66300 Annually

POSITION SUMMARY:

Managers at MERA in JFK Terminal 8 play a key leadership role in the daily operations of our Quick-Service Restaurants (QSR). This position supports the Unit Managers by overseeing front-line staff, ensuring operational excellence, and maintaining high standards of service, quality, and cleanliness.

The Front of House Manager (FOH) is responsible for leading and supporting the service and bar teams by actively assisting the team during peak service, monitoring food safety and sanitation, and ensuring all company policies and brand standards are followed. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced airport environment, demonstrates strong communication and leadership skills, and is committed to providing an exceptional guest experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Supervise daily operations of the QSR unit, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and adherence to brand standards.
  • Lead, train, and motivate team members to deliver excellent customer service and maintain speed of service goals.
  • Support the Unit Manager in onboarding and developing new employees.
  • Assist with shift scheduling, break management, and ensuring adequate coverage during peak periods.
  • Maintain a professional and positive work environment that fosters teamwork and accountability.

Customer Service & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure guests receive prompt, friendly, and accurate service at all times.
  • Monitor food preparation, presentation, and portioning to meet company and brand quality standards.
  • Handle guest inquiries and resolve complaints quickly and effectively.
  • Uphold cleanliness and organization throughout the restaurant, including front- and back-of-house areas.

Operational Support

  • Assist in opening and closing procedures, including cash handling, register reconciliation, and daily reporting.
  • Monitor inventory levels, communicate shortages, and assist with restocking as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, and safety regulations as mandated by JFK Airport, the NYC Health Department, and company policies
  • Support the Unit Manager with special projects, promotions, and audits.

Leadership in Action

  • Act as the on-duty leader in the absence of the Unit Manager.
  • Maintain strong communication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams.
  • Promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and integrity consistent with MERA’s values.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of management experience in QSR, fast casual, or high-volume food service operations.
  • Proven experience managing diverse teams across multiple food service concepts
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and direct a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with scheduling, labor management, and payroll oversight
  • Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and quality standards.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain composure in a fast-paced airport environment.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and basic cash handling procedures.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by airport operations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or Business preferred.
  • Experience in airport-based or unionized food service operations is a plus.
  • Valid food safety/ food handler certification required
  • ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods (8–10 hours per shift).
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to work in both hot and cold environments.
  • Comfortable working in a high-traffic, fast-paced airport setting.

Note: All employees must pass required airport background checks and obtain any necessary clearances to work in secured areas of JFK Terminal 8.
